Hammerstein & Maier, Augustenstraße 101.
This is probably the smallest café in the Maxvorstadt district. Petra Hammerstein and Corinna Maier opened it together but since Ms. Hammerstein is currently concentrating on her antiquarian bookshop on Türkenstrasse, and Ms. Meier also has a job with the Munich “Merkur” newspaper, you will usually find Fouhe Romdhane, known as “Chico”, behind the counter. The café even serves dishes of the day such as a salmon and fennel risotto. But what we like best is the curved shopfront—a bright version of Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks”, so to speak.
